I'm a student at Savannah College of Art and Design enrolled as a Film/Television student (wanting to work for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, etc.) with a new minor in CERAMICS! I took my first Wheel Throwing class on a whim and fell in love, declaring my minor two weeks into the quarter.
For right now I'm just having fun and experimenting. My influences come from animals, sea life, Native American artwork, folk art, textiles, food in general, and random stuff. Most of my work will be coming out of classes, and techniques will probably come from demos (depending on if it's thrown or hand built). I can't to see what I think of when my restrictions are illiminated!
I would like to go to a school where I can use more than a Cone04 electric kiln, but for right now this will do.
I encourage all comments and love critiques! I hope you enjoy my gallery :-)

A graduation present for my brother who I can't see graduate from University of Delaware because I am at school in Savannah. I know I can't make up for it with a coffee mug, but this is a gift that will keep on giving. Words can't explain how proud of him I am for getting through school, opening his eyes to wonderful future opportunities, and setting such an awesome example for his sister.

For my wheel throwing class we were assigned a stacked object project. These are made from 4 sections: the bottom, then the same thrown shape but upside down ontop of the bottom, the neck, and the watering dome top. The idea for the dome top is to fill water in the bottle through the large hole, then tip the bottle so the water comes out of the tiny holes on the other side.

Two pitchers, one made with an Alice (from Wonderland) on the side. Alice was made after dripped surface decoration and thick layer of majolica had dried. I then carved canals for her lines, then filled them with a tiny dropper of overglaze. I made this technique up because I didn't want her to drip along with the rest of the glazes. This way, when the majolica melted, it would trap her colored lines.

Thrown simply for my first raku firing experiments. THere's a hole in the bottom for drainage for a pretty little plant. A variety of colors paint the outside, but I decided to choose the side with a copper shoulder.

Another simply thrown flower pot for my raku experiments. A REALLY thick layer of majolica was applied before pit firing, this was the decay that came out. I think I'm going to put a really bright plant in it. About 8" tall

A bowl I made for my friend for her birthday. Her birthday is mid-March, and I associate that time with daffoldils. She's in love with crowns and I realized they kinda look like daffodils! SO the inside is growing crown daffodils while the outside has a modern crown symbol all around. I put a quote (madonna style HA) we used to sing as kids on the side. These details were made by carving away at a white slip on greenware before bisque firing then dipping in an umber glaze before glaze firing.

For my friend's birthday I threw and modified the exterior of this piece. The symbol you see is a design that she's used as her trademark for many years. I made a stamp with the symbol then bisque fired it before pressing it into the surface. I threw the lid and the spiral knob seperately. 2 glazes I personally mixed to suit her taste.

My mom has started a new obsession with salt. When i made this for my wheel throwing class I knew it was for her, but I had no idea what she would use it for besides decor. I figured later that she may use it for the red salts cause it would just look beautiful. I don't know if she ever will. Oh well. I still like it.

This final assignment for my handbuilding class was to make a tea set. I got my inspiration from a brontosaurus and her eggs. The teapot itself is made from hard slab and soft slab construction. i threw the cream/sugar duo functional pot on the wheel as well as the two cups. i altered all forms by adding soft clay to the bottoms to create the feet. all in all i am very pleased with the outcome, but i still dont think of myself as a contemporary ceramicist. in fact, i am attracted to this because i love dinosaurs, everything else is a little too modern for me :-\ earthenware cone 04. commercial glazes.

Fall 2006
I threw this in my spare time and had it sit as greenware on my shelf for a lonnng long time thinking i would eventually turn it into something for my boyrfriend. Finally, we got a second to get away from school and traveled down to Florida for one of String Cheese's last shows (well, at least for a while) and along the way i carved this little design on the sides in the car. It hung around our house for a while, one of my roommates broke the handle off, so i put it back on. I glazed it, and since it was a little underfired I already got a chip on it. Yeesh, this guy has got some character. Earthenware cone 04 about 5" wide (without handle) and about 3.75" tall.

I made this for my brother for the holidays. He eats enormous piles of pasta and is always chasing it off his plate, i thought he may need some sides on his plate. I love how this turned out, i experimented with some new underglazes. each element has a different underglaze and over glaze. The detail on my stamp (which is actually my nightstand's knob) came out just as i had dreamed. it's the same glaze as on my Dino Tea Set. About 11" diamiter and 4" tall. Earthenware cone 04. One handle for hanging when not in use

Winter 2005
My first assignment in Wheel Throwing we were asked to create 16 cylanders, 4 unique sets of of 4 mugs. no handles, but exploration in shape and surface decoration. being the first time i ever glazed, the background behind my alpacas didn't come out the white that i wanted it to be, my majolica was too thin. But it's a nice landmark. Earthenware, majiloca with overglazes.
