I was brought up in the Congo and am profoundly marked by nature. We do not decide what life throws at us and all we can do is to witness, study, question, admire, recoil and position ourselves within nature. This is true in Europe too where human nature has resulted in the formation of complex, odd, artificial environments that mirror our ingenuity , our limitations and our lack of control. Art to me marks that frontier between ourselves and the immense question all humans have asked or will ask themselves one day: Why are we here? Is there a sense to this? Art is what we create, it's the emotions we translate, it's a language we research, it is a question and a tangible useful creation. It is a way of communication. And sometimes, just as a day is a day, a cup is a cup, and art becomes anodine, comforting, banal or reassuring.
